Employee introductions: how to make them a success?

April 11, 2019

You're welcoming a new employee in a few weeks' time, and want to introduce him or her to your colleagues? What are the keys to introducing him/her to all your teams? Let's find out together in this article.

Welcoming a new team member is an important part of any company. It's important to inform them in advance, and to integrate them properly on the day. Let's take a look at the different ways of presenting these two options.

Upstream

Whether you're a manager or in charge of human resources, it's essential to inform your teams of the arrival of a new member of staff. This can be done via an e-mail in your internal newsletter or on your intranet. Introduce the person's surname, first name and job title. If the new employee is a trainee or work-study student, specify the current training and the duration of the contract.

To make sure you keep your colleagues fully informed, you can create an introductory video. In this video, announce all your new arrivals as well as the information mentioned above. You'll be sure that your colleagues will see your video, as it will be more effective than the many e-mails they receive.

Finally, don't hesitate to ask your superiors to make their own presentation video and welcome video. You can then pass this video on to new employees if the managers are not present on the day of their arrival.

D-Day

There are several ways to introduce your new employees to your entire team. Here are the different ways:

1. Introduce them over breakfast

If there's one thing that brings all your teams together, it's breakfast (and aperitifs). By organizing a company breakfast, you can be sure that a good proportion of your teams will attend. You'll be able to introduce them to the new associates while sharing a moment of conviviality. They'll be able to get to know them and find out more about them.

2. Take a tour of the offices

The easiest way to meet all the people in a company is to tour the offices! Well, if you're a start-up or SME, this should be quick enough. On the other hand, if you're a large company, it might take a while.

We don't recommend this technique, as it doesn't really allow you to introduce yourself. The new employee will breeze from office to office. Even if your colleagues have been informed of his arrival by e-mail, they won't have time to get to know him better. What's more, if some offices are empty, you'll have to come back to introduce yourself.

3. Take a photo of the new

The current trend among startups is to list employees in photos. It's not uncommon to see kitchen walls filled with portraits. This allows everyone to find the names of employees and the dates they joined the company.

A concept we love at EasyMovie, and which we use in addition to the following point. You can take a photo of each new employee and post it wherever you like. An additional tip would be to publish this photo on your intranet or collaborative platform if you have one.

4. Produce an employee presentation video

We'll finish with the point you're sure to appreciate the most: making a short presentation video. We've adopted this model at EasyMovie because it enables all our employees, regardless of their country of residence, to get to know new people. We ask each new person to introduce themselves in less than two minutes, explaining what they'd like to do. Whether it's their studies, their passions or what they do, they're free to choose what they want to share!

Once the video has been produced, it is published directly on the company's social network. All teams can then view the video and react to it. Conversation becomes much easier when people bump into each other on break or in the corridor!
