Detangling passion
11h. That's when your shoot begins. You're ready, your speaker is ready, all that's left is to shoot. You take out your equipment: phone, stand, microphone and... the completely tangled tie-microphone cable. It all started so well! Here you are, chatting awkwardly with your slightly hurried interviewee, as you retrace the path taken by this damn cable.
After spending a long time untangling the cable, you're ready to go. For the times to come, don't hesitate to tidy it up by wrapping it around your hand, before attaching it. With this tip, you'll save two precious minutes before each video.
An entire installation.
Once the cable is free, it's time for installation. On television, as on the Internet, we're lucky enough to be able to show the microphone on our plan. But showing the microphone is not the same as showing the cable!
It's easy to hide: just slip it under your shirt. Just make sure it doesn't show while you're shooting.
In which direction?
Now that everything's in place, straight and tidy, all that's left to do is clip it into place.
"But what does it mean?" you ask.
Well, the one to the mouth. The microphone only picks up in one direction, so it's best if it's from the mouth! As Patrick explains,
" It's a directional microphone, so you have to point it towards your mouth and make sure that nothing rubs against it during the interview".
So let go of hair, jewelry, scarves and so on for superior sound quality - guaranteed without unintentional noise pollution.
Bonus:
Last but not least: avoid round-neck or tight-fitting T-shirts! Opt for a V-neck button-down top. And that's it, you're all set to get the best possible sound for your videos.
