Video presentation: a look back at EasyMovie onboarding

January 10, 2019

Every time new employees join EasyMovie, we ask them to make an introductory video. It's a great way of introducing them to our teams. Here's a look back at this onboarding, in video of course!

Given that we use video on a daily basis, why not use it right from the start? It was with this in mind that we set up this process. We explain why below.

Presentation video

As you can see in the video above, our valued employees have been playing the game from the moment they arrived. Onboarding at EasyMovie is essential to facilitate integration with other departments.

They have to make a presentation video lasting less than two minutes, using our application of course. They are then free to create their videos as they wish. This could be by evoking clichés, highlighting past experiences or adopting a YouTubeur style.

To give you an idea of the result, here's Théophile's video:

You can find all our videos on our YouTube channel.

Why adopt this format?

As they say in the video, having to talk about themselves is something some of them have never experienced before. The major challenge of this onboarding is to facilitate integration into the company. Where doing it on video is beneficial is that the video speaks louder than a simple e-mail. In other words, expressing yourself on camera is more socially engaging than in writing.

What's more, the format facilitates interaction with other employees, as it allows newcomers to learn about each other's backgrounds. Discussions between new and old colleagues will be easier to set up, as the topic of discussion will be based on the presentation video. The video thus serves as a springboard for discussion for your teams.

The results

It's not easy for everyone to expose themselves on camera. However, it's important to remember that it's not a camera in front of you, but a smartphone. In our video, Yémi confesses that he'd never made a video before, and that this latest one revealed a new talent in him. Since then, he has been making weekly videos with his colleagues.

For your company, a video presentation can put a face to new arrivals who have only been introduced by e-mail. It's not uncommon to find that more than half the people interviewed in a company don't know all their colleagues. By producing this type of video, you' ll facilitate your internal communication while improving the integration of your new colleagues.

What next?

If you were wondering what to do to continue their onboarding process, here are a few tips. At EasyMovie, we produce weekly video summaries, the detailed article of which can be found here. The aim is to summarize each department's week in a short video. The main aim is to reinforce the integration of teams by getting them to work together.

We also advise you to organize events with them and get them involved with other employees. You can always organize corporate activities to reinforce buy-in. Finally, try taking them on a tour of the departments, and why not film their experience, as we did with the presentation video.
